Here is one of my favorite songs from the San Francisco Indie Pop band Girls. I really love the jam at the end of this track, where the mood shifts from bouncy to ethereal and then the tension builds for awhile and presses some “gems” out of the lead guitar. A few licks in there remind of the classic riff on “Ventura Highway” by the oft-overlooked Folk-Rock band America. The flowery riffs lend a perfect balance to the overall feeling of melancholy in both songs. Really wish I could see the band as they headline Terminal 5 in New York City this Saturday, but alas I will have to continue California dreaming from home for now.
