HIJK are an Indie Rock band from Oakland, trafficking in “hyper late 90’s-style rock, full of addictive hooks and complex riffs”. Their art forward style hinges on angular guitar work that simultaneously references the Post-Punk sound, as well as, Alt-Rock staples like Superchunk. Check out the stop motion video for their brazen song “Paper Boat”.
The band is looking to “take your TV set” this Friday, February 28th, in a cool double bill with Autocomplete, at The Connecticut Yankee. Getting robbed never sounded so good…

Vice Count is a New York based Alt-Rock band with heavy Blues and Classic Rock sensibilities. If you like your rock, to actually ummmm ROCK, then you’ll appreciate their riff-centric approach. Formerly known as The Viscounts, until further research revealed conflict with the name, the band has been hard at work in the studio writing and recording new material. From the sounds of the first song released, “Peripheral Vision”, the band is ready to continue their conquest of the city. The melody flows smoothly from guitar to vocals and back again, never ceasing and keeping your interest from beat one. Give a listen below, and make sure to catch their upcoming show at Tammany Hall on Thursday, August 2nd.
Let’s put the Electro Pop renaissance on hold for a bit and shift to a Pop Rock act that has written some timeless songs. Irish 90′s Alt. Rock stars The Cranberries have recently gotten back together and will be kicking off their U.S. tour in New York City tomorrow night at Terminal 5. Judging by their two SOLD OUT shows to open the tour in New York, it seems like at least 6,000 people still care. Despite not securing a ticket of my own, I also still care. Watch my favorite song, “Ode To My Family”, below.
