Get Out of My Memory

By | July, 7, 2012

For the last three months, I haven’t been able to get these girls out of my memory. Once again, I’m a little late to post, since they released their first official video for the single “Forever” a month ago. With a guitar riff that calls to memory Michael Jackson‘s “Wanna Be Startin’ Somethin’”, this song should definitely be in the discussion for song of the summer. Many critics have likened the band to a cross between Fleetwood Mac and En Vogue, but I’m getting more of a cross between MJ and The Pretenders. Watch the video below, and make sure to check out my previous posts about Haim, here and here.

First Listen: Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros, ‘Here’

By | May, 22, 2012

Here is your chance to give a listen to the sophomore release, Here, by Folk-Pop darlings Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros. While it hasn’t struck me quite as quickly as their debut album Up From Below, it is definitely another treasure trove of well written pop tunes that exude an overall feeling of peace, love and happiness. Listen to what may be the lead single, “That’s What’s Up”, below.

Stream the entire album over at NPR. The album is slated for release, next Tuesday, May 29th.

Also, check out our post about the band, from back in February here.

Don’t Let Your Mind Retire

If you sleep on these girls, you’ll be kicking yourself later. This is a pair of songs from their CMJ performance this past October at Bowery Electric in New York City’s East Village.

Band of Sisters

By | April, 21, 2012

Haim is three sisters who have grown up playing in a band with their parents. They have now stepped out on their own and judging by one of their sets at SXSW a few weeks ago, it seems as if they’re ready to take over the Indie Rock scene. Their balance between thoughtful, artsy pop and balls to the wall, visceral rock is truly a triumph. Read a more thorough analysis of the band courtesy of Albert Barabas over at The Wild Honey Pie.
